I knew you were going to love this project and you did not disappoint. There are so many details in this piece that relate to the story, but you don't realize right away, like the painted roses, etc. Your use of zoomorphics with the flamingos was so neat. I also liked how you chose a story that everyone knows, yet it has special meaning to you and your life. The knotwork with the roses is crazy cool.
It was also nice to see where your inspiration came from because I can see where you pieced together your favorite parts to form something completely unique.
I really loved your manuscript. It was such a great piece that was able to combine the required elements, yet still make it personal. When I first saw it I automatically thought about the Book of Kells. You have the traditional elements like the knots and zoomorphic figures, but you also stayed with the same color palette as well the page layouts. It particularly made me thing of this page: http://images.amazon.com/images/P/1551563452.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg. Overall, great work!
Your manuscript was real nice. I especially liked the color palette and imagery you used. I can see where you pulled a lot of your ideas from different pieces, and I think it's great that your final piece incorporated all of them, but in a way that showed your style! The knot work is great and looks like it took forever! Great job!
Oh my goodness, I think yours is my favorite! One, there are flamingos, and two, it is Alice in Wonderland inspired. Very creative! Chesire cat is very inspired by the lacterine and zoomorphic imagery from the Book of Kells. The way the flamingos' bodies become the knotwork and intertwine together is just really beautiful. You really did the text justice too, it's clearly meant to be uncial type. The shape of your capital T reminds me of this one: http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/3344/21607712.png
I can't imagine how long it took you to do the rose vine border, but it's really intricate and lovely. Everything really does justice to the story and to the project's intentions.
Well, yours IS automatically going to be my favorite...
...for good reason! I thought your entire freaking concept was mind-blowing, and, of course,it ended up being fantastically executed. The roses in the knot-work are superbly done, as well as the flamingos. My favorite part, though, has to be the capital. The caterpillar and the mushroom fit together perfectly. A jorb well done.
I really like the clean lines of your design, it's like a streamlined modern take on some of the more cluttered pages of the book of Kells. I really see the inspiration from the images you posted, especially the 2nd one you posted, the bold colors even remind me a little of spanish manuscripts.
Lauren - Once again, I am in awe of your hand rendered work. Your use of positive and negative space was very well through through! The negative space stays quite interesting throughout your whole work. I also like how you incorporated the super thin lines into your knot work. well done! Great use of zoomorphics with the flamingo heads!
This is amazing, I am angry at you for being too talented!
The knot work is extremely clean and looks great. The incorporation of alice in wonderland is very clever, and the color usage is very fitting not only of a celtic manuscript, but also of the story. Your zoomorphic shapes are very detailed, and the flamingos weaving into the knot work is clever. The type looks very celtic as well. The geometric and organic form combination is very celtic as well. One of my favorites, it is very cleanly drawn!
Your manuscript was my favorite! Partly because I am obsessed with Alice in Wonderland and also because I love your illustration style. I liked that you filled up the whole page on your carpet page. Your knot work is beautiful and so is your choice of colors. The layout of your manuscript reminded me of your first inspiration picture.
